Priologems, have you enjoyed reading the gospel of John?
As I said before, the Bible is unique. It is the very words of God. Because of this, you cannot read the Bible like any other book. 2 Timothy 2:15 says we must work hard to be accurate when we study the Bible. We do not want to misinterpret what God says.
First, prepare your heart and mind to receive what God wants to tell you. So whenever you start reading, PRAY and ask God to give you wisdom. "Open my eyes to see the wonderful truths in your instructions." (Psalm 119:18). It is good to use a dictionary to look up the accurate meanings of words. Also, remember to look at the context - the verses before and after the verse you are reading.
The next step is to act on what you have learned. Use the following to apply the verses to your life:
- Sin or behavior I need to confess and turn away from?
- Promise I should claim for my life?
- Example to follow?
- Command to start obeying?
For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. - Hebrews 4:12
Remember, the Bible is not full of dead words, but God's words for you today. God has given His Holy Spirit to teach you and guide you to just what you need to hear.
I would love to hear how God is teaching you from His word, and answer questions that come up while you read. I am praying for you too!
