Chapters 1-39 The prophet Isaiah lived in Jerusalem and spoke to the leaders of Jerusalem and Judah. 2 Messages: Judgment and Hope. Chs 1-39 are the 3 pieces of Gods judgment which ends with fall of Jerusalem and exile into Babylon. Chs 40-66 go into detail about the hope. The conquering nations God sends are the purifying fire He uses to create the new Jerusalem for the repentant remnant. Universal peace and harmony. Israel will be chopped down like a tree into a stump and burned… but will become a holy seed for the future. God will send a new <messianic> king, Immanuel, who will set His people free. Babylon an even more destructive empire. The fall of. A tale of two cities. The Lofty City and the New Jerusalem. Warns His people not to turn to Egypt for help but only trust and repentance. - Good news: the divine Messiah brings salvation to all humankind.
- Don’t fall for claims that Jesus was just a good, moral man. Jesus is Yahweh—absolute deity.
- Jesus brings us spiritual healing from the infection of sin.
- Jesus is “God with us”—always present with us.
- The Lord is our shepherd. The sheep who stay closest to Him are blessed.
- There is no other God but Yahweh. Trust in Him alone.
- God is both transcendent and immanent. He is both high above us, and right here with us.
- God is a God who answers prayers.
- God is holy. He desires our holiness.
- Our attempted good deeds are sin-stained. Don’t try to earn salvation by works!
- God prefers repentance over judgment. Tragically, many humans prefer sin over repentance.
- Joy awaits God’s people on the other side of judgment.
- God has the awesome ability to forget your sins.
- Angels play a significant role in the Bible. Let’s be thankful for their various ministries.
- Satan is against Christ and all who follow Him.
- No matter what you face in life, fear not. The Lord is with you.
- Good news: there’s a new day coming. We’re destined for a new heavens and a new earth.
